Prithvi Shaw expresses concerns about potential harassment if he ventures outside
Following his disappointing performance in IPL 2023, Prithvi Shaw has not been included in the Indian team for any of the three formats.
Undoubtedly, Prithvi Shaw stands out as one of India’s most gifted batsmen to date. Having made his international debut in 2018, the 23-year-old showcased remarkable performances for the country. Unfortunately, his form has taken a significant hit over the past couple of years, leading to his omission from the team. Notably, his lackluster performance in IPL 2023 contributed to this decision, resulting in his exclusion from all three formats of the game. Beyond his cricketing career, Shaw is also grappling with challenges in his personal life.
During a recent interview, Shaw revealed his inclination to remain at home due to concerns about potential “harassment” from the public if he ventures outside. Additionally, he opened up about the mental distress he experiences when encountering posts about himself on social media.
“I do contemplate certain aspects, but I try not to carry excessive pressure back to my room. If I’ve had a quick dismissal, there’s no way I can get back on the field immediately. Therefore, my attention shifts to my next inning. Once back in my room, I unwind by taking a shower and engaging in PlayStation games like FIFA, Call of Duty, or Uncharted. Presently, I choose not to go out due to the possibility of facing harassment from people, and the potential social media scrutiny that follows,” shared Shaw during his conversation with Cricbuzz.
The opening batsman for Delhi Capitals also disclosed that he has been keeping to himself lately, even going to watch a movie alone.
“I’ve stopped going out because wherever I go, something or the other happens (laughs). I’ve completely stopped going out now. Recently, even for lunches and dinners, I’ve been going alone. I’ve actually started enjoying my own company. Not long ago, I watched a movie, ‘Insidious,’ all by myself. It was incredibly scary, and I’m glad it wasn’t in 3D. I was alone, so I couldn’t even ask someone to sit next to me (laughs),” shared the batsman humorously.
In February, the cricketer from Mumbai encountered significant criticism following an altercation at a nightclub involving social media influencer Sapna Gill and some of her friends. Shaw claimed that the influencer invaded his personal space, while Sapna countered by accusing the cricketer of molestation and asserting that he initiated the conflict.
Although no strict action was taken against Shaw, the police proceeded to apprehend Sapna and her companions.
