Indian Structure Outshines Pentagon, Crowned as the World’s Largest Office Building
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is scheduled to officially inaugurate the building in November this year after a construction period of four years.
After reigning as the world’s largest office building for eight decades, the Pentagon has ceded its title to a newly constructed building in Surat, Gujarat. This remarkable structure will serve as a diamond trading center in the renowned gem capital of the world, where 90 percent of the globe’s diamonds are expertly cut. Known as the Surat Diamond Bourse, this impressive facility aims to be a comprehensive hub for over 65,000 diamond professionals, encompassing cutters, polishers, and traders, as reported by CNN.
As reported by CNN, the 15-storey building spans 35 acres of land and comprises nine interconnected rectangular structures, linked together by a central spine.
As stated by the constructing company, the vast complex encompasses more than 7.1 million square feet of floor area.
The official inauguration of the building will be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November this year, following a four-year construction period.
As mentioned on the SDB website, the complex includes a recreational zone and parking area that spans an extensive 20 lakh square feet.
The organization is a non-profit entity supported by SDB (Surat Diamond Bourse), a company incorporated under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, with the primary objective of establishing and promoting the Diamond Bourse in Surat, Gujarat.
In an interview with CNN, the CEO of the project, Mahesh Gadhavi, expressed that the newly constructed building complex will rescue numerous individuals from the need to travel, often on a daily basis, to Mumbai by train for business purposes.
Indian architectural firm Morphogenesis was chosen through an international design competition to craft the design of the building.
According to Mr. Gadhavi’s statement to CNN, the competition’s objective did not involve surpassing the Pentagon. Instead, the size of the project was determined by the demand for the facility.
He further mentioned that all the offices were bought by diamond companies prior to the commencement of the construction.
