Google Layoffs “Hundreds” From Its Advertising Sales Team Worldwide After Eliminating 1000 Jobs Last Week

Layoffs 2024

In a recent development at the headquarters of the search engine giant, a wave of layoffs continues, with approximately 1000 employees being let go across various divisions. The most recent cuts have targeted the advertising sales team, and the news was first reported by Business Insider, citing a memo from Google VP Phillip Schindler. Confirmation of the layoffs came from Google’s spokesperson, Chris Pappas.

According to Pappas, a few hundred roles are being eliminated globally as part of this restructuring. Schindler’s memo hinted at the Large Customer Sales (LCS) unit bearing the brunt of these layoffs. The LCS team primarily focuses on selling ads to large businesses. With these changes, the core advertising sales team will now be led by the Google Customer Solutions team (GCS), which caters to a smaller client base.

This move follows an earlier round of layoffs in October 2023, which had already impacted some LCS staff. Pappas emphasized that the company undergoes a thorough restructuring each year to enhance its services for Ads customers. The restructuring involves mapping the customer base to relevant specialist teams and sales channels.

Addressing the affected employees, Pappas mentioned that while hundreds of roles will be eliminated, the impacted staff will have the opportunity to apply for open positions within Google or elsewhere in the company. This ensures that employees facing layoffs can explore alternative opportunities within the organization.

This strategic realignment is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to adapt to market changes and provide the best possible services to its advertising customers. While the layoffs represent a challenging moment for the affected individuals, the company aims to navigate these changes with a commitment to ongoing excellence in its advertising solutions.
