Google fires the co-founders of Fitbit and fires hundreds of workers in its AR the branch.
Fitbit co-founders Eric Friedman and James Park are among the many workers being let go by Google. A large number of jobs were terminated as a result of the company's reduction of its AR segment.
Google has dismissed multiple high-ranking Fitbit officials, involving James Park and Eric Friedman, the company’s co-founders. Google reportedly informed 9to5Google that it is also terminating staff members from the Devices and Services divisions, which are in charge of producing products like Fitbit, Nest, and Pixel.
Fitbit as we know it may come to an end because of this. Fitbit was purchased by the tech behemoth in November 2018 for approximately $2.1 billion. Google has sacked hundreds of workers from the Augmented Reality division, indicating that the corporation may cease developing its own AR devices, while the Pixel team appears to be the least affected.
These divisions used to operate as independent teams and focus on a variety of tasks including software, hardware engineering, design, and user interface. The company’s hardware branch, which focused on wearables, smart homes, and cellphones, was akin to a mini-business.
A new study published on 9to5According to Google, the company is reorganising itself by moving to a more functional organisational model, wherein a single team develops hardware for products like Fitbit, Pixel, and Nest. Furthermore, it appears that a single individual will be in charge of all hardware projects at Google, though it is unclear whether this will harmonise the company’s diverse range of products. Make it distinct and simple.
