Advancements in AI technology are transforming the beauty industry, including how people find the perfect foundation shade. In South Korea, a country known for its innovation in beauty and skincare, AI is being used to analyze skin tones and recommend foundation shades that match perfectly. This technology can take into account various factors such as skin undertones, lighting conditions, and even skin changes over time, providing a more personalized and precise match than traditional methods.

“Every person has their own specific skin tone, but they usually buy the most common colour available over-the-counter,” said Kwon You-jin, a 32-year-old customer at the firm’s personalized skin cosmetics service.

AmorePacific said it uses AI to recommend the best choices for a customer from 205 different skin foundations or 366 different lip product colours. “We used deep learning, opens new tab, machine learning techniques to take the process that experts use to evaluate data from many peoples’ skins into an service,” said engineer Lee Young-jin, an adviser for AmorePacific’s custom beauty business.

AI-powered gadgets can scan a customer’s complexion with their Smartphone camera or specialized devices in-store, then use algorithms to recommend the optimal foundation shade from a brand’s collection. This not only improves the purchasing experience through removing guesswork, but it also promotes customer happiness by guaranteeing that they receive a product that is a true fit for their skin.

AI systems use cameras on mobile phones or specialized in-store equipment to capture detailed photos of a customer’s skin. These photos are analyzed to identify small differences in skin tone and undertone. Machine learning algorithms analyze skin data and compare it to a database of foundation hues. These algorithms offer the best hues based on skin color, undertones, and lighting circumstances. AI systems create over time as they learn from user comments and incorporate fresh data. This ensures that the recommendations grow more accurate and tailored. Based on the investigation, AI recommends foundation tones that match the user’s skin tone. Some advanced systems also recommend additional products, such as primers and setting powders, to complete the entire look.
