First Look at the Standout Features of the Kia Sonet 2024!
The Kia Sonet 2024 is a small SUV that comes with a range of body colour and engine options. These are our initial thoughts.
One brand that frequently provides more amenities for the money is Kia. The Kia Sonet is no exception. The company recently unveiled the newest sub-4-meter Sonet facelift for 2024 in India, and we had the opportunity to briefly drive the GTX+ model, which is equipped with a 1.5-liter CRDi VGT 6AT engine that generates 250 Nm of torque and 85 kW of power. I’ll tell you if the 2024 Kia Sonet is worth checking out in this first impressions post.
Kia Sonet 2024: Design
The 2024 Kia Sonet maintains its distinctive appearance, though subtle changes to the grille, headlights, and tail lamps, along with the addition of a new rear spoiler, give it a refreshed look. The revamped Signature Tiger Nose Grille enhances the sporty appeal and introduces a premium touch, instantly recognizable as a Sonet.
During our test drive of the GTX+ trim in the striking Intense Red color with a dual-tone design, glossy paint, black matte-finished splash guards, and chrome accents caught our attention. The front showcases a chrome-black grille resembling a tiger’s nose, housing a 360-degree camera at its center. The L-shaped LED DRLs and crown jewel LED headlamps contribute to a sporty and upscale aesthetic, complemented by slim LED fog lamps.
Chrome accents are tastefully incorporated throughout the body, and the dual-tone color scheme with LED indicators on the rearview mirrors adds a touch of sophistication. The body-colored handles on the doors exude quality. At the rear, the Kia logo stands out, accompanied by Star Map LED-connected tail lamps and aerodynamically designed rear skid plates.
One notable aspect, experienced while cruising at around 80kmph, is the remarkably quiet cabin, a rarity in this price range and a distinctive feature compared to its competitors. The Sonet 2024 measures 3995 mm in length, 1790 mm in width, and 1642 mm in height. The GTX+ variant boasts 16-inch Sporty Crystal Cut alloy wheels, adding a premium touch that complements its price tag. Overall, the 2024 Kia Sonet impresses with its aesthetic updates, attention to detail, and a serene driving experience.
Kia Sonet 2024: Performance
The 2024 Kia Sonet offers a diverse range of engine options, catering to various preferences. These include the Smartstream G1.2 5MT, Smartstream G1.0T-GDi 6iMT/GDi 7DCT, or the 1.5l CRDi VGT 6MT/ 6iMT and 6AT engines. During my 2-3 hour drive covering 60 kilometers, I found the GTX+ variant to deliver a smooth performance. Even in ECO mode, the acceleration was just right. However, when switched to SPORTS mode, the turbo lag was noticeable, and the performance difference was minimal.
The GTX+ variant of the Kia Sonet 2024 is a feature-packed option, offering amenities that lower-end variants may lack. Noteworthy features include leather upholstery with ventilated front seats, an electronic sunroof controllable via voice commands, an in-built air purifier, Qi wireless charging, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen supporting wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch color LCD MID dashboard display, and a 7-speaker Bose sound system. While the inclusion of fast USB Type-C charging ports is appreciated, the reliance on a USB Type-A cable for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto seems dated for a 2024 model.
The vehicle’s braking system consists of disk brakes on all four wheels, complemented by a parking assist featuring a 360-degree camera for optimal visibility during reversing or navigating tight spaces.
Safety is a priority in the Kia Sonet 2024, equipped with ADAS level 1 and a total of 10 safety features. These include Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Warning, making it particularly beneficial for new drivers and long highway drives. The comprehensive safety package enhances the overall driving experience.
Kia Sonet 2024: Other Notable Features
To ensure you get the most out of this car and have a better driving experience, the Kia Sonet 2024 comes equipped with six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, and brake assist that can be partially adjusted and monitored via the Kia app.
Kia Sonet 2024: Should You Buy it?
The 2024 Kia Sonet is a noteworthy upgrade, approved by consumers. Priced at Rs. 7.99 lakh onwards, it brings in advanced features like ADAS level 1, a fresh body kit, and voice commands in top-end variants. Ideal for city driving and daily commutes, it competes with the Hyundai Venue, offering similar features at a slightly higher price, and the Renault Kiger, which provides affordability with comparable features. The Kia Sonet 2024 excels in the sub-Rs. 15 lakh category, combining comfort and innovation.
