Kamala Harris takes a tougher stance on migration and reaffirms support for Israel

Harris emphasized the need of achieving a cease-fire while maintaining that arms deliveries continue to protect Israel's security.

Vice President Kamala Harris recently made waves with her first major interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. In the interview, she detailed a stronger approach to immigration, emphasizing the importance of enforcing existing rules against unauthorized border crossings. She also reaffirmed her support for Israel, rejecting calls from some in her party to reconsider US weapons shipments to Israel during the continuing Gaza battle.

Furthermore, Harris has shifted her opinions on critical topics such as migration and fracturing since her first presidential campaign, moving closer to the middle. She has also stated a willingness to include a Republican in her potential cabinet if elected, emphasizing her desire for a wide set of perspectives in her government. Harris’ recent actions and words reflect her efforts to appeal to a larger public as she competes against Donald Trump in the 2018 election.

One of the most notable features of Harris’ recent interview was her harder position on migration, particularly along the US-Mexico border. Harris underlined the need of implementing existing immigration rules, stating that unauthorized border crossings should result in consequences. This indicates a change from her past, more moderate immigration positions during her 2020 presidential campaign.

Harris also emphasized her commitment to pushing for comprehensive border legislation that tightens immigration rules. This policy adjustment appears to be a planned effort to win over voters in critical swing states, particularly those who may have been turned off by aggressive immigration policies.

Another important topic Harris discussed was the United States’ support for Israel, especially in light of the ongoing battle in Gaza. Despite pressure from some elements within her party to reassess US military funding to Israel in light of the significant civilian losses in Gaza, Harris has stated clearly that she supports Israel. She emphasized that, while a cease-fire and a deal to release hostages are critical, the United States should continue to provide Israel with the weapons it requires to protect itself.
