Motorola’s Rizr stands out from all other devices on display at this year’s MWC due to its rollable concept.

The Motorola Rizr, which should not be confused with the Moto Razr, is a smartphone with an expandable rollable screen that measures from 5 inches to 6.5 inches.

At the yearly Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, some of the largest mobile phones the world has ever seen—including Nokia’s 808 PureView—were unveiled. The display of a rollable phone concept from Lenovo-owned Motorola definitely stood out at this year’s MWC, despite the fact that many high-profile releases from the top smartphone makers in the world attracted a lot of attention.

Rollable displays provide a fresh perspective on how smartphones might develop in the future as the industry hits a technological wall. Over the years, IT businesses have gotten increasingly risk-averse, which has reduced the “wow” factor in many of their products and made the majority of them almost uninteresting. Both your Dell laptop and the iPhone 14 have the same appearance as the one before it.

Motorola, however, believes that their rollable screen products could help the smartphone market recover from its current slump. Motorola displayed its rollable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress, which came to a close on Thursday in Barcelona. The company even let media members to use the Motorola Rizr for a short period of time.

A smartphone with an expandable rollable screen  from 5 inches to 6.5 inches at the push of a button is the Motorola Rizr, which should not be confused with the Moto Razr. Similar to clamshell-style folding phones, the other half of the display is visible at the back of the device while it is in compact mode and can be used for selfies and quick glances at information.

The Motorola Razr and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 aren’t trying to be replaced by the Rizr, which Motorola refers to as a proof of concept. The Motorola Rizr instead presents a different angle for examining the market for smartphones with new form factors. It is obvious that rollables and foldables may coexist while still offering their own advantages.

It is obvious that Motorola is taking its time before releasing the Rizr in the marketplace. Before rollable display technology is in consumers’ hands, there is still a long way to go.
