According to Google, if you include an HTTPS / SSL key certificate on your website, you will see a slight improvement in your ranking.
Google claims that the signal is currently being given less weight than other ranking factors, such as high-quality content, but that they “may opt to boost” the signal in order to encourage all website owners to convert to HTTPS in order to keep users secure online.
Google added that they have seen “good results” from the HTTPS signal in terms of relevance and positioning in their search results.

Are you worried about the change from HTTP to HTTPS on your website for search engine optimization? Very little. To make sure that your traffic doesn’t suffer, though, you must take some actions. Make sure to inform Google that you switched your site from HTTP to HTTPS, in other words. Google has offered some fundamental advice for now but will soon provide further guidelines:
- Select the type of certificate you require first: single, multi-domain, or wildcard
- Use 2048-bit key certificates
- For all other domains, use protocol-relative URLs.
- For resources that are located on the same secure domain, use relative URLs.

- Avoid using robots.txt to prevent crawling of your HTTPS site.
